Karan Johar's plans to cast Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan together

Monday, 8 October 2012

Karan Johar is one of the most witty and intelligent filmmakers of Bollywood. He is Shahrukh Khan's closest friend but he also admires Salman Khan. When Karan was asked recently that who would he have cast in the lead 15 years ago in his upcoming film Student of the Year, he said Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan.

Karan Johar told Emirates, "Shahrukh Khan, Kajol and Rani. But wait, the "Student.." has two male leads, so definitely Salman Khan would be it. He and Shahrukh were the reigning superstars back then."

Talking about Shahrukh Khan, Karan Johar said, "Shahrukh is co producing the film (Student Of The Year) but I could never call myself an equal to him. He is emotionally superior and an elder brother to me. Plus he is such a brand power, how could I even think about competing with him as an equal."

Well Karan, we would suggest you to make a film with Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan together and name it as 'Superstar of the year'!

Bigg Boss 6 starts with a bang!

It's that time of the year again when Bollywood bad boy-turned-indomitable superstar Salman Khan gets to admonish warring, scheming, abusive celebrities battling for survival within Bigg Boss's home.

For 90 days, around 63 cameras will be at work for our viewing (voyeuristic) pleasure as we watch celebrity inmates live in the Bigg Boss house without any connection to the outside world.

Following a successful stint as the host of Colors' popular reality show in its fourth season, previously anchored by the likes of Arshad Warsi, Shilpa Shetty and Amitabh Bachchan, the Wanted star made a limited return to co-host some of season five's (most entertaining) episodes with primary presenter Sanjay Dutt.

While Dutt's lacklustre approach was considered too feeble to handle the sensationalist, hostile spirit of the show, Khan's blunt style and cheeky humour got unanimously lauded making him the ideal choice for taking charge of season 6.

Like every past season, the 46-year-old actor has a mega hit to boast this season too. Changing up between a studded military blazer with jeans and snazzy three-piece suit, Khan performs to a medley of his popular songs from Bodyguard, Ek Tha Tiger and finally the official theme song of Bigg Boss 6 aka Alag Che.

The actor is in his element as usual and makes up for the opening act's lack of chutzpah with his brand of spontaneity. He rides a cycle rickshaw, blares into the microphone, fools around with contestants, tells silly jokes, makes crazy faces and gamely matches steps with Aiyyaa heroine Rani Mukerji over Dreamum Wakepum.

But more importantly, he'll make not one but three appearances in a week.

Following his jig, Khan, in all his blockbuster avatars -- Radhe (Wanted), Chulbul Pandey (Dabangg), Tiger (Ek Tha Tiger), Lovely Singh (Bodyguard) and  Prem (Ready) offers us a tour of the Lonavala-based Bigg Boss abode designed by Sabu Cyril.

Everything about the house from the kitchen, hall, garden area, gym, swimming pool, smoking zone, bedrooms, a deceitful aquarium (wherein the housemates do not know they're visible to the other side) and confession room looks more flamboyant than before. Another novelty is a talking Macaw parrot who promises to pass information from here to there.

They've also placed three Monkey figures in the outdoor symbolising the classic maxim: See No Evil. Say No Evil. Hear No Evil. Given the history of showdowns in Bigg Boss courtesy the likes of Dolly Bindra, Akashdeep, Pooja Missra and Rakhi Sawant, it seems more of a gibe and less of a reminder.

Still Khan emphasises throughout the first episode that the contents will be more family-oriented this time before going on to acquaint us with its 15 notorious contestants

Businessman Salman Khan sets rules for film producers

Wednesday, 3 October 2012

The master of Rs.100 crore club, Salman Khan, has proposed a new business model for producers.

As per the new model, the producers of his film would get a certain percentage of the profits earned. The amount may vary from Rs.15-20 crore. And after paying for the production costs, Salman will get to keep the remaining amount to himself.

The new rule is on the lines of the guidelines he usually sets for the makers of his films - regarding music directors, shoot schedule, time of reporting and also heroine's costume.

According to reports, experts are saying that Salman is taking a huge risk. As by agreeing to pay the production costs and a fixed amount to the producers,

Salman can be in a fix and lose a lot of money if a film fails to generate expected returns.

Bollywood biggies like Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar are already following this model.

Salman Khan’s new diktat for Bollywood producers

Mumbai: Salman Khan, the megastar, has risen to the stature akin to the supreme lord of Bollywood. Given his image as the master of the Rs 100 crore club, Salman Khan is set to bend the rules of the industry. Reports say that Salman bhai has come up with new business model where the producers of his film would get a certain percentage of the profits earned.

This new rule follows Salman’s list of guidelines he usually sets for the makers to abide, regarding music directors, shoot schedule, time of reporting and also heroine`s costume. So, it didn’t come as a surprise when a source close to the star justified Salman`s new stance which clearly positions him as the game changer.

According to Salman’s new business model, producers will receive a fixed remuneration amount (much like the cast and crew). This may vary from Rs 15-20 crore. And after paying for the production costs, Salman will get to keep the remaining amount to himself.

Explaining it, a source said "Though many may think that Salman`s decision smells of over confidence, the new rule makes a lot of sense. One needs to understand, that by agreeing to pay the production costs and a fixed amount to the producers, Salman is taking a huge risk. In case a film fails to generate expected returns, he will lose a lot of money."

However, according to insiders, producers working with Salman in the near future may feel the pinch. "Over the last couple of years, Salman`s films at an average made around Rs 140-150 crore. And with this new rule, the producer will stand to get only Rs 15-20 crore apart from the production costs. A big amount that would have earlier gone to the producers would now be taken by Salman," said the source.

When contacted, trade analyst Amod Mehra said that he was aware of Salman`s new business model. “If I am not mistaken, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and even Akshay Kumar have adopted this model earlier. Then why not Salman?”
