Shahrukh Khan applies for registration of his brand SRK

Wednesday, 3 October 2012

Shahrukh Khan  is now in a growing list of Indian celebrities looking to trademark their names, that is -- use their names as valuable property .

If King Khan has his way, soon he will be the owner of the trademark SRK. The documents available shows  that Shahrukh Khan has applied this mark in as many as 40 different classes of trademarks.

Khan feels that it will be a profitable business  for him. This means that products ranging from chemicals for industry to pharmaceutical companies, if anyone wishes to use the mark SRK, they will have to seek permission from Shahrukh Khan.

Right now the mark SRK has been published in trademark journal. This means that anyone having any objection to the registration of the mark SRK, they can file an opposition to this effect within a period of four months

Shahrukh Khan is not the first celebrity to apply for the registration of Trade Mark. Documents  show that cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has already got his name trademarked in March this year. IPR law experts feel that given the money these celebrities are getting in endorsements, the trend of protecting the brand in a name has started.

The application filed by Sachin Tendulkar did not got many oppositions and it was successfully registered in March this year. But SRK is one mark which is bound to be opposed and if this happens, the King of Bollywood may be seen fighting for it in the court of law.
