Indore: Pradeep Karnik, an alumni of Indore's Fine Arts College, has threatened to sue writer of a glitzy, coffee table book on film star Shah Rukh Khan for refusing to give him credit for his painting that featured in the book without his permission. Penned by Mushtaq Sheikh, the book-- Still Reading Khan-- was released in October 2006.
Karnik claims he saw a photograph of his painting in the book on page number 34 chapter 2 with the title 'mere pas maa hai' after some friends informed me about this.
Pradeep Kanik, who is president of Art and Heart foundation, said, "I have been sending e-mails to Sheikh and Shah Rukh Khan, asking them to give me credit for the painting used as a photograph in the book but have not received any reply so far.
Now the painter intends to move the court against the film star and his biographer for violation of Intellectual Property Rights.
"This painting is in my own style. I have painted for the years in this style. It was used without my signature and an unwanted graphic was added to change the background", Karnik decried.
He claimed that the painting was created in early 2000 when he stayed in Mumbai. He had gifted the painting to an art gallery manager in Mumbai, Manendra Singh Dabar.
